Miami Beach November 2007 - “Jonah Wolfson is Attempting To deceive the voters of Miami Beach by insinuating that he is being endorsed by the Miami Beach Fire Fighters.” fumes Adonis Garcia, President of Miami Beach Fire Fighters Local 1510. “This could not be any further from the truth.” steams Garcia, adding “Mr. Wolfson is being endorsed by Miami-Dade Fire Fighters, Local 1403 who have nothing to do with Miami Beach and who, if brought into Miami Beach for fire service, would represent a tax increase for Miami Beach by creating a fire district, which would represent a tax increase of 3 mills for residents of Miami Beach.”  “The Fire Fighters and Miami Beach Police Officers are squarely behind Luis Salom in Group 4”, concluded Garcia.

           I have lived through many campaigns in this city but I have to admit, this is definitely one of the worst. The flyers received daily are full of misleading innuendos against one candidate or another…someone talk about these ethics…please. If we are deliberately being deceived before the election, what are our chances after the election? What a waste of money...God help the great people of Miami Beach.

     "I want to thank CityDebate for maintaining its spirit of open debate
and neutrality in affording me the opportunity to respond to the attack
article against me. I ask the public to remember that in an emergency,
the work and help of first responders knows no boundaries. My campaign
received the endorsement of Fire Fighters Union Local 1403, and I am
proud of this. This group of first responders has the right to endorse
whatever candidate they feel would be the most ethical and effective
public servant on Miami Beach's Commission. This is the same case as
with Senator Bob Graham endorsing me as well. Adonis Garcia, with
Local 1510, has a personal vendetta against my candidacy and has been
biased in favor of my opponent since before his group's endorsement
process began. Adonis' comments in the article that imply any sort of
hidden agenda or tax increase are unfounded and lies, and this is not
the first documented lie he has made against me. If elected tomorrow,
I will serve in an honest and effective manner for all the people,
including Miami Beach's fire fighters and law enforcment officers, with
the lone exception of Adonis Garcia. Sincerely, Jonah Wolson."
