Veterans Day Ceremony, Parade, and Picnic Hosted By Commissioner Jerry Libbin, American Legion and VFW

Miami Beach – CityDebate.Com – November 1, 2009 -  On Veterans Day, November 11, 2009, the American Legion Miami Beach Post 85 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3559 will honor the men and women who have fought for freedom with a parade in the City of Miami Beach.  The festivities will include a wreath laying ceremony and, for the first time, a picnic hosted by Miami Beach City Commissioner Jerry Libbin.  The parade will commence at 9:30 am with the day’s festivities concluding at 11:00am in honor of the First World War Armistice Day Tradition - a moment of silence for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The wreath laying ceremony and 21 gun salute will commence at approximately 10:30 am at Flamingo Park following the parade.  Guest speakers will include Mayor Matti Bower.  Immediately following the ceremony, a picnic will be hosted by Commissioner Libbin, free of charge to parade participants who register by October 9th.

Commissioner Libbin is dedicated to making this year’s parade the best in its history.  He has committed to recruiting at least 500 participants and is reaching out to the schools, local organizations and business community to support our troops during the parade.

“Commissioner Libbin has really helped to reorganize the parade to a greater honor for our veterans,” said David Patlak, Vice Commander, of the American Legion Miami Beach Post 85. “He is bringing in school children and a plan that makes this the best Veterans Day on Miami Beach ever.”

“The men and women who serve our country with distinction deserve our appreciation every day,” said Commissioner Libbin.  “This parade gives us an opportunity to come together as a community to thank them.”

“We see the children of Miami and the Beaches recognizing Veteran’s Day for its true meaning – that we honor the men and women who have fought for freedom – and they will pass it on to future generations,” said Patlak. “This is what’s making this year’s festivities so special for everyone in Miami – and this is what we are most looking forward to.”

If you are interested in supporting the day’s festivities there are numerous opportunities available and we are accepting monetary donations to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3559 located at 650 West Ave, Miami Beach, Fl. You may also support our service men and women by walking as an individual, or as part of an organized group.  For more information, please contact the office of Commissioner Jerry Libbin at (305) 673-7106 or jerry@miamibeachfl.gov
